Wolves scouted Serie A goalkeeper recently and will watch him again tonight

Wolves are seemingly in the market for a new goalkeeper, with the club having apparently watched AS Roma stopper Mile Svilar recently.

Wanderers currently have Jose Sa as their number one, with Dan Bentley his backup, and Tom King as the number three.

But it looks as though Wolves could be looking to make a change to their Goalkeepers Union.

Yesterday evening it was reported that Wolves have been keeping tabs on Patrick Schulte of Columbus Crew, with Arsenal and Manchester United also keen on him.

But now, there is a claim that Wolves are looking at Mile Svilar…

It has been reported by one of Italy’s biggest publications Gazzetta dello Sport that Wolves recently watched Svilar in action for Roma in their 4-0 win over Brighton in the Europa League.

Wolves scouts were clearly quite taken by the 24-year-old, because they are apparently going to be in attendance to watch him again at the Amex Stadium tonight in the return leg.

Gazzetta also provide some information regarding Roma’s stance over the player.

They are very happy with the one-cap Serbia international, and they want to count on him in the future.

It is stated that Roma would not consider any offers below €12/13 million (£10/11 million).

This season, Svilar has made 15 appearances across all competitions. Nine of those have come in the Europa League.

He has started the last four games in Serie A though, replacing former Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio between the sticks.

Svilar could help Wolves be better playing out from the back

Jose Sa is a fine shot-stopper and O’Neil is seemingly happy with him. But there have been question marks over his ball-playing and distribution.

According to fbref data, Svilar has recorded a 91.8% pass completion rate so far in Serie A, compared to Sa’s 65.3% in the Premier League, and Bentley’s 68.4%.

Interestingly though, over the last 365 days, Svilar has a save percentage of 76.4%, which is considerably better than Jose Sa’s 68.1% and better than Bentley’s (72%).

When Svilar was only 18, he was thrown into a Champions League game against Manchester United, who were managed by Jose Mourinho at the time. The then-teenager really shone, with Mourinho saying after the game (via Roma official): “To me he seems really talented. This kid is amazing, he’s a talent, he’s a superhero. Respect to Benfica for playing him straight away, at 18.”

It remains to be seen if Wolves will make a move, but clearly Svilar has something about him, especially with him replacing Patricio now in the league.
