Wolves have reportedly rejected a late approach from Scottish giants Celtic for defender Hugo Bueno.

It has been reported by the Daily Mail (via the Daily Record) that Celtic made an approach for Bueno, with manager Brendan Rodgers on the hunt for a new left-back.

He has just one senior option available right now in Alexandro Bernabei, with Greg Taylor out injured.

Celtic have looked at Layvin Kurzawa, but also apparently made a move for Bueno.

But they were unsuccessful with their attempt It is unclear what kind of offer was presented to Wolves, but with Jonny Castro Otto having left earlier in the window, an exit for Bueno was never likely to be entertained.

So far this season, Bueno has made 14 appearances this season. He was on the sidelines with an injury earlier in the campaign, and Gary O’Neil has preferred Rayan Ait-Nouri on the left of his defence.

Wolves right to reject Celtic offer for Bueno

So Celtic have seemingly attempted to land Bueno at the end of the transfer window, and it’s good that Wolves have rejected their approach.

He may not be in favour at the moment, but Bueno – described as ‘excellent’ by Matt Hobbs in November 2022 – remains an important squad player.

There isn’t a great deal of depth in the squad. If AIt-Nouri picks up an injury then his chances of playing regularly will increase.

He’s in a fight for minutes right now, with Ait-Nouri adored by O’Neil and Matt Doherty also getting minutes on the left. But despite his position in the pecking order, there is no way Wolves could have sanctioned his exit.
