Wolves refocus on previous £15m transfer target after Max Kilman sale

Wolves are said to be ‘redoubling their attention’ on one of their targets, after Max Kilman was sold to West Ham United.

Kilman became the first sale of the summer this weekend for Wolves, as he completed a £40 million move to the London club.

Wolves had been holding out for £45 million, but compromised in the end and accepted £40 million from their fellow Premier League club.

West Ham have long targeted Kilman, and he became a priority for them once Julen Lopetegui became their manager.

Kilman is now the fourth biggest sale in Wolves’ history, and the deal the club have done has been praised given the player was only signed for £40,000.

It is expected that Wolves will move to sign a replacement – and it looks as though one player could now re-enter Wanderers’ crosshairs.

Record have reported that Wolves could now focus their efforts on David Carmo, who has returned to FC Porto following a loan spell with Olympiacos last season.

Carmo joined the Greek giants halfway through 2023/24, and ended up making a big impact for them.

Olympiacos went on to win the Europa Conference League, and Carmo made it into the Team of the Tournament for a string of impressive displays.

With Kilman having now been sold, there has obviously now been some talk about Wolves moving for a replacement central defender.

Carmo is said to be a player Wolves like, and they have now ‘redoubled their attention’ on him after selling Kilman.

Porto are currently under some financial pressure and there may be an opportunity to sign Carmo for a decent price this summer. Porto have been reported to want around £15 million previously, but perhaps there is a chance they would accept less.

But Wolves will face competition from Olympiacos, who would love to take him back after having him for the second half of last season.

Carmo would be a top Kilman replacement

It is positive to hear that Wolves might be refocusing on Carmo, who on paper feels like a solid replacement for Kilman.

The Angola international is left-footed and physically imposing just like the former Molineux skipper. And he can also play in a back three and a back four.

But Carmo is said to have good leadership qualities and we know that Wolves have been very big on signing the right characters in recent times. We saw what brilliant additions both Craig Dawson and Mario Lemina made when they came in midway through 2022/23.

Wolves have lots of time left in the window to assess potential targets.

But Carmo may well be the right man for the job.

With Olympiacos keen though, there might just be a bit of pressure to get something done fairly quickly.
