Wolves receive immediate response after lodging transfer bid for Kevin Danso

Wolves look set for a busy end to the January transfer window, with Kevin Danso back on the agenda at Molineux.

It was reported this afternoon that Wolves had tabled a transfer bid for Danso, thought to be in the region of 316 million.

The feeling has been that Wolves need to sign another centre-back, on top of Emmanuel Agbadou arriving earlier in the window.

Agbadou has impressed so far, and Wanderers are keen to further bolster their pool of defensive options.

They are back in for Lens defender Danso, and there has already been a development after the club tabled a transfer bid.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Wolves have failed with their bid to sign Danso.

Interestingly, Foot Mercato’s information on the bid is slightly different from what was reported earlier.

The French publication claims that Wolves’ bid was actually worth around €22 million (£18.5 million) including bonuses.

And Lens have rejected that bid. It’s also stated Lens don’t want to sell the player this month. It’s currently unclear if Wanderers will be going back in with an improved offer.

That said, it was reported ahead of the window that Wolves want to hand Pereira two new defensive recruits, so another bid seems reasonably likely.

Wolves must land second central defender

So Wolves have seemingly received a setback in their efforts to land Danso, but hopefully, the club will return with a second offer pretty quickly.

We have seen in recent weeks that the Wolves backline is still crying out for another central defender.

Agbadou looks like a really good signing having played a handful of games so far.

If the club can also get Danso in this month then things would be looking much healthier.

As per WhoScored data, in Ligue 1 this season Danso has averaged 3.4 duels per 90, had a pass completion rate of 86% and has an average match rating of 7.02.

He seems like he could be another solid addition like Agbadou. But clearly, there is work to be done to convince Lens to sell.

Clement Akpa is also on Wolves’ transfer radar and might be one to watch if the Danso pursuit fails.
