Wolves primed to seal fifth signing in £17m deal as Jorge Mendes claim made

Wolves have one week left in the transfer window to get their business done, and the club are closing in on a fifth signing of the summer.

After Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, concerns have increased at Molineux.

There is a general feeling that if Wolves do not finish the window strongly, then a relegation battle will await this season.

Wolves have offloaded a plethora of players this summer, and only signed a handful so far. And none of the new recruits are Premier League-proven.

But there is still some time remaining for Wolves to get their squad in order.

And it looks like a deal for Christantus Uche – who’s been on Wolves’ radar since early summer – could now be creeping closer.

It has been reported by Liam Keen via the Express & Star that Wolves are now closing in on Christantus Uche, the forward from Getafe.

Currently, the two clubs are negotiating over a deal worth £17 million.

Previously it was suggested that Getafe were under pressure to sell Uche due to FFP.

At present, there is work to do over personal terms. But there is confidence from Wolves that they can finalise a move, amid competition from other clubs.

Many eyes will be on Getafe’s team sheet tonight.

They are in action against Sevilla in La Liga, and the Nigerian may well not be in their squad if things progress today.

Jorge Mendes has been key player in Uche deal

Earlier this summer, Wolves instigated a restructure of their recruitment division, which saw Matt Hobbs leave the club.

Domenico Teti came in, having previously worked with Vitor Pereira, and is overseeing operations regarding player incomings and outgoings.

As part of the restructure though, Wolves are now leaning on Jorge Mendes a bit more again.

The agent was a fairly prominent figure in the early years of Fosun’s ownership of the club, and the Portuguese is now back on the scene.

And according to Eduardo Burgos of AS, Mendes has been a key player in the Uche pursuit.

He said: “Personal terms still to be agreed, but there’s a lot of confidence that it will be sorted tomorrow. Jorge Mendes, key in the deal.”

Hopefully, Wolves can get this one wrapped up fairly quickly this week and then move on to other targets.
