Wolves player who Gary O’Neil said has a ‘big future’ set to seal loan exit, official confirmation imminent

Wolves fans are clamouring for new signings, but the exodus at Molineux shows no sign of stopping.

So far, only Fer Lopez has signed for Wolves, arriving from Celta Vigo.

But Jhon Arias is expected to be announced imminently, after Wolves agreed a fee with Fluminense.

Arias always wanted Wolves and is even thought to have accepted a pay cut to make the move.

But Wolves have lost a number of players already this summer, with Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri the headline departures.

In the weeks following, several players have headed out on loan, including Tommy Doyle and Nasser Djiga.

And it appears another exit at Molineux is now imminent.

Boubacar Traore did not join Wolves for their pre-season trip to Portugal recently, as the club were looking to sort out a loan move for the midfielder.

Shortly after that news was made public, it was claimed that Metz were interested in re-signing Traore.

It was then suggested there had been a breakthrough, with Traore set to sign for Metz on a straight loan.

And now, L’Equipe journalist Flavien Tresarrieu – who had reported the initial interest from Metz – has said that a deal is now agreed for the player to join.

He said on X yesterday: “Traoré has signed for the season. Official announcement this evening or tomorrow morning.”

As the announcement didn’t happen last night, it seems the player could well be announced as a new Metz player at some point today, potentially as early as this morning.

Metz return is sensible move from Wolves for Traore

Wolves are doing right by Boubacar Traore with this loan move to Metz.

The Mali midfielder has struggled during his three years at Wolves, through a combination of injury and having top players in his position to compete with.

He’s made just 44 appearances so far, only 11 of which have been Premier League starts.

By staying, he would likely only continue to warm the bench, as he is even behind Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi in the pecking order.

At one point in the 2023/24 season, Gary O’Neil talked Traore up as having a ‘big future’, saying: “I’m really excited by what he could be, I’ve said it a few times and especially to my staff, in a few of his performances I was really impressed with him.

“He has a big future because he’s still very young.”

But Traore going back to Metz is a positive move, because he did well there previously and knows the league.

Ideally, he will stay fit and get lots of minutes under his belt ahead of returning to Wolves next year.

That there is no sign of a buy option suggests Vitor Pereira would be open to Pereira coming back into the fold at Molineux, so it’s on him to deliver.
