Wolves’ plan for six first-team stars ahead of transfer deadline, £15m man could go

Wolves have just over one week left to get their squad in order for the 2023/24 season.

The transfer window closes next Friday, and just two players have come in so far with a lot more having departed.

It’s been a frustrating summer for Wolves fans.

Many were ready for the club to kick on under Julen Lopetegui, after he guided the club to safety.

But financial issues have seen the Spaniard leave, and Wolves have really been struggling to get new faces through the door.

A report has now explained what Wolves’ stance is as the deadline approaches…

Wolves want to keep key quartet, but Podence and Jonny could both leave

The Express & Star have reported this morning about Wolves’ stance on some current players in the squad.

Recently, there has been talk that Fabio Silva, Mario Lemina, Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Nunes could leave.

Each of these players have admirers.

But Wolves fans will be relieved to hear that the club will not be offloading any with one week to go in the window – unless ‘inflated offers’ come in. Even if that happens, Wolves would only consider selling.

But there are two players that could go.

Daniel Podence and Jonny Castro Otto have been made available for transfer.

Podence has recently been linked with Celtic, but there has been no word of any kind of interest in Jonny.

Many expected the £15 million signing to be one of the first players to leave this summer.

But he remains a Wolves player for now, even though the club are very open to offloading him.

Quartet stay, Podence and Jonny out, new centre-back and midfielder in…

This is a nice plan and hopefully Wolves can execute it with a week to go.

It doesn’t bear thinking about losing any of those four players at this stage. It’s good that Wolves are determined to keep them.

Podence and Jonny are fringe players that could bring in a decent amount.

Ideally, both will go and give Wolves a bit of cash to spend on a new centre-back and a new midfielder.

A new centre-back is absolutely essential before next Friday’s deadline.
