Wolves one of three clubs monitoring European forward, he’s outperforming Matheus Cunha this season

Regardless of whether or not Wolves remain a Premier League team, Fosun must resolve Matheus Cunha’s future in the summer.

Despite signing a new contract in January, Cunha is wanted by all the top clubs.

With a £62.5 million release clause, very few expect the Brazilian to still be at Molineux next season, and judging by recent reports, sporting director Matt Hobbs has the same concerns…

Wolves one of three clubs interested in Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze

Understandably keeping their attacking options open ahead of Cunha’s suspected departure in the summer, Wolves, according to CaughtOffside, are monitoring Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze.

The Georgia international only arrived at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais Stadium from FC Metz last summer in a deal worth around £15 million. He is already attracting interest from Premier League clubs, though.

Excitingly, it has been noted that Mikautadze has ambitions of moving to England’s top-flight, suggesting a move to the Midlands could be a possibility.

However, the Old Gold aren’t the club monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation…

Crystal Palace and West Ham are also in the mix, with the latter a desirable option due to the forward’s ‘enthusiasm to play alongside the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen’.

Solid Matheus Cunha replacement

Although some fans won’t want to lose Cunha, his exit is inevitable, so finding his replacement is a necessity.

And judging by how Mikautadze has done since moving to France from Ajax, Vitor Pereira could do a lot worse than Lyon’s number 69.

Mikautadze is outperforming Cunha this season in most of the main attacking areas, including 21 combined goals and assists from just 17 starts compared to the Brazilian’s 19 contributions from 25 starts.

This season has seen Cunha have his best individual campaign since making his professional debut. The South American has, at times, single-handedly won Wolves points but that just makes Mikautadze’s superior minutes-per-direct goal involvement (82) even more impressive.

The Georgia international’s consistency and proficiency in front of goal make him a good candidate to join the club next season.

That said, it’s important to highlight that the forward’s contract, which doesn’t expire until 2028, combined with the growing interest, would make him an expensive target.
