Wolves now set to miss out on target as Jorge Mendes pushes Nottingham Forest move

Wolves could potentially miss out on Gio Reyna this month, with Nottingham Forest in talks to sign the forward on loan.

Recently, Wanderers were touted as a potential next destination for the USMNT international.

Reyna, 21, has really struggled for minutes this term, playing just 336 across 13 appearances. He did come into the season with an injury which meant he was unavailable for the first four Bundesliga matches. But Reyna has been unable to make himself a regular again since returning.

It has been expected that he will move on in this transfer window.

Wolves had been mentioned as a possible suitor, but another Premier League club is looking more likely for him at this stage…

It has been reported that Wolves are in the market for another wide forward, as well as a central striker. Reyna, can play out wide, as well as in the number 10 position.

According to ESPN recently, Reyna had been offered to several teams this month by his agent Jorge Mendes. Mendes apparently mentioned Wolves as a possible option.

But the agent, who has facilitated several deals for Wolves over the years, is now pushing Reyna to Forest.

Fabrizio Romano reported on X: “Nottingham Forest and Borussia Dortmund have scheduled new round of talks for Gio Reyna loan deal. Loan fee and salary coverage still being discussed while Gio has already accepted #NFFC as destination. His new agent Jorge Mendes is taking care of the deal.”

The £41,000-a-week winger has a contract with Dortmund until the summer of 2025, and the Bundesliga club are likely hoping that he will get regular minutes elsewhere.

Should Reyna thrive, Dortmund may still be able to sell the player for a decent fee with only a year left on his contract.

Wolves would not be missing out

With no goals, no assists and really limited game time this season, it’s probably fair to say that Wolves wouldn’t really be missing out on Reyna if he does indeed sign for Forest.

At one point, the youngster was looking like a serious talent, but in recent times his development has ‘dramatically stalled’ according to the Guardian.

It would therefore be a bit of a risk for Wolves to sign him.

Wolves don’t have any concerns about a possible relegation battle, but Gary O’Neil will want to push as high as possible in the second half of the season and therefore needs players this month who can come in and improve the squad.
