Wolves send one absolutely clear message to club trying to sign their £70k-a-week star

There has been speculation about the future of Hwang Hee-chan, but Wolves recently did something that makes their stance absolutely crystal clear.

French club Marseille are keen to sign Hwang, and recently bid £21 million for the player.

This was rejected by Wolves, who have seen Hwang become one of their most prominent players over the last year or so.

The South Korea international enjoyed his best season at Molineux to date last term, as he scored 13 goals across all competitions. In the end, he statistically finished as one of the Premier League’s most clinical players.

Hwang was rewarded for his form with a new contract last December, and it’s thought he now takes home around £70,000 per week.

That contract was a clear indication that Wolves think very highly of the former RB Leipzig man, and something else Wolves have done shows that too.

Hwang was a big player for Wolves last season.

Under Gary O’Neil, he really became the explosive and effective player we saw in those first few weeks after he first joined on loan, but he was able to sustain his form for longer.

O’Neil adores Hwang, and last year he raved over the star’s tactical intelligence and understanding.

The manager has just made some more comments about the player, and he does not feel that Hwang will be on his way this summer amid the speculation about Marseille.

Before these latest comments from O’Neil, it was reported by talkSPORT that Wolves were actually so adamant that Hwang is staying, that they quoted Marseille ‘a ridiculous figure’.

It was not suggested how much money Wolves demanded.

But the notion Wolves did this is completely understandable. Ultimately, Hwang is adored by the manager, the fans and his fellow teammates.

He’s versatile, clinical, hardworking and also has strong commercial value.

Hwang must be kept

Hwang needs to be kept by Wolves and it sounds now like he will not be departing this summer.

There were some concerns when reports surfaced earlier this week about him agreeing personal terms with Marseille.

But the message from Wolves and O’Neil seems to be clear. Hwang simply isn’t for sale.

The 28-year-old brings so much to Wolves and it would feel a bit hasty for the club to sell after the first season he has really exploded at Molineux.
