Wolves now reach transfer agreement to sign ‘blistering’ £12.7m winger, medical this week

Wolves fans could soon be welcoming their first signing of the summer to Molineux, with the club having reached an agreement on Sunday.

There has been a lot of frustration surrounding the club over the last couple of weeks.

The season ticket price increases did not go down well at all, and the mood has been low.

But it looks as though Wolves could now be set to bring in their first new player of the summer, which is always something that brings excitement.

On Sunday night, it was reported that Wolves have reached a transfer agreement with Braga for Rodrigo Gomes

It is a big summer for Gary O’Neil, who is seeking to pack out his squad for 2024/25 after really feeling the pinch last season.

Injuries to key players saw momentum halt, and Wolves ended up finishing 14th in the Premier League table which actually felt a bit disappointing in the end.

In recent weeks, the club have been linked with a move for Rodrigo Gomes, who really shone on loan with Estoril in 2023/24.

It had been claimed that Atletico Madrid had stolen a march on Wolves in the race for the winger, who scored nine goals and bagged eight assists in 2023/24. But Wolves have come surging back and now look set to pip the Spanish giants.

As per the Daily Mail, he is due in England this week for his medical ahead of signing a five-year contract. A £12.7 million deal has been agreed for the player’s transfer.

He is set to become the first new face at Molineux this summer, although technically he’ll be the club’s second signing, after Tommy Doyle, who’ll become a permanent Wolves player.

An exciting move by Wolves

So it looks as though Wolves are closing in on Gomes and it is an exciting move by the club.

Gomes – who was hailed last week by Carlos Carvalhal – is a real livewire, who seriously impressed in 2023/24 playing as a right wing-back mainly. As per Football Talent Scout earlier this year, Gomes ‘was very effective in counter-attacking situations due to his blistering pace and ability to get up the pitch quickly. He is definitely an attacking threat and can both create and score goals’.

We have seen how much O’Neil values pace and mobility during his time at Molineux so far.

So Gomes feels like he is going to be a good fit, wherever he ends up playing. He is a natural winger and can play as a right wing-back which is obviously very handy.

Clearly he is a talent, since Atletico Madrid really wanted to bring him in, and hopefully he can hit the ground running quickly at Molineux.
