Wolves are said to have been offered the services of a Champions League winner, who is currently a free agent.
The club were in the market for a new centre-half in the summer. But sadly, Wolves just couldn’t get anyone in.
There were late links to the likes of Dara O’Shea and Nayef Aguerd.
But Wolves failed to get anyone, and in the end, they changed tack and made a swoop for deep-lying midfielder Andre from Fluminense.
Wolves can still look at the free agent market though, and apparently the club have now been offered the services of former Liverpool defender Joel Matip.
Wolves among several clubs to have been offered Joel Matip

It is being reported today by talkSPORT that Wolves are one of several Premier League clubs to have been offered the services of Joel Matip.
Matip left Liverpool at the end of last season after an eight-year spell at Anfield.
He made 201 appearances for the Reds, and helped the club to win the Premier League title in 2020/21 and the Champions League in 2018/19.
Matip, 33, is now being lined up for a swift return to the Premier League.
talkSPORT are claiming that Wolves, West Ham United and Fulham have all been offered the player. He himself is keen to return to the English top-flight.
West Ham, managed by former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui of course, have also been linked previously Ruhr 24.
Wolves currently have four centre-back options; Craig Dawson, Toti Gomes, Yerson Mosquera and Santiago Bueno.
Bastien Meupiyou could eventually become an option for O’Neil but for now, the French youngster will play in the academy as he settles in.
Matip could be a risk worth taking
This seems a very easy transfer link to make, given Wolves were in the market for a new centre-back in the summer and didn’t get one.
But Wolves could very well be interested in Matip – and depending on the terms he may make for a decent addition.
Matip is vastly experienced which is just what Wolves need. And he has won things with Liverpool.
He was also hugely admired by Jurgen Klopp, who has said of the former Cameroon international (via liverpoolfc.com): “A wonderful professional, a wonderful footballer and a wonderful human being.”
The big issue though, of course, is that Matip’s injury record for Liverpool was poor. As per Transfermarkt, he missed a whopping 140 games through various injuries during his time at Anfield.
But given his status as a free agent, there is perhaps a little less risk attached to Wolves signing him up.
It is not like he would be playing regularly, and a reduced workload could suit him.
