Wolves have just over a week to get their transfer business done – and a new player has just been linked with the club.
Gary O’Neil got three new players in early doors this summer, with Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen all joining.
But Wanderers have been quiet in recent weeks, and Max Kilman and Pedro Neto have both departed for big money.
Fans are hoping to see a few new faces come in before next Friday’s deadline. It looks as though defender Bastien Meupiyou will be one addition, after Wolves reached an agreement with Nantes.
But Wolves are in the market for a more experienced defender on top of him.
Now, it is being claimed Wolves have been offered Bayer Leverkusen star Odilon Kossounou.
Wolves offered Odilon Kossounou but move ‘unlikely’

It has been reported by Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports that Wolves are one of a few clubs to have been offered Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou.
Thomas reports via Sky that Leverkusen needs to offload either Kossounou, Edmond Tapsoba or Jonathan Tah, in order to complete a move for Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg.
Wolves have been offered Kossounou, as have Premier League newcomers Leicester City.
But a move is currently seen as ‘unlikely’.
Wolves are focusing on other targets at the moment, such as Dara O’Shea of Burnley. It is thought the Clarets would want to sell for around £15 million.
Thomas reports Leverkusen’s valuation of Kossounou is ‘thought to be quite high’. But no asking price is offered at the moment.
Kossounou is a player who has actually been linked with Wolves before. It was claimed back in February 2021 that Nuno Espirito Santo was interested in the Ivory Coast international.
Kossounou should be worth considering
Wolves fans can expect Meupiyou to come in before next Friday’s deadline. But the club need another centre-back with experience under his belt and Kossounou could make for a decent signing.
Leverkusen obviously won the Bundesliga title last season, and Kossounou made a good contribution, making 22 appearances in the league. He also made four in the Dfb-Pokal, with Leverkusen also winning that.
Last term Kossounou missed a handful of games due to being at AFCON, a tournament he was triumphant at with the Ivory Coast. He played three games at the tournament.
So Kossounou is a league champion and player with international pedigree, so he is perhaps worth considering by Wolves, although there is no word on a valuation at this stage.
Kossounou has been described (via Bundesliga.com) in the past by Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes as ‘really quick, agile, strong in the challenge and technically good’.
However, it does sound as though O’Shea of Burnley might be the man they move for.
