Wolves have been linked with Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in recent days – and the club have now discovered how much they’d need to pay to sign him.
It is not out of the question that Gary O’Neil could make changes to his goalkeeping department ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Jose Sa has been the number one for three years now at Molineux.
But it was claimed at the start of the summer that agent Jorge Mendes was sounding out interest in his client from other clubs.
He has been linked with Nottingham Forest in the past, and also had interest from Saudi Arabia.
Sam Johnstone is thought to be a player Wolves are looking at. Now, there is word of an asking price.
Crystal Palace want £10m for Wolves target Sam Johnstone

It has been reported this evening by the very reliable David Ornstein that Crystal Palace are ready to sanction Johnstone’s exit from Selhurst Park.
The player lost his place to Dean Henderson last season, and is now the number two.
The England international is keen to change his situation and join a club that can offer him more regular game time.
Ornstein, including a Wolves hashtag, wrote on X this evening: “Crystal Palace ready to sanction Sam Johnstone exit after GK asked to go.
“31yo relayed decision on tour – club will help if enough time + acceptable offer. #CPFC want £10m for England int’l. Interest from #LCFC #NFFC #SaintsFC #WWFC @TheAthleticFC.”
The claim comes after suggestions Wolves were interested in Johnstone and that the club could hear offers for Jose Sa if he was signed.
Wolves recently played against Crystal Palace in the US in pre-season. The two teams faced off in Annapolis, with Palace running out 3-1 winners. Johnstone was an unused substitute for the Eagles.
As per Ornstein in his report, Oliver Glasner has indicated to Johnstone that he would not be the number one if he were to stick around.
An interesting situation
So with Ornstein now reporting that Wolves are interested in Johnstone, who has four England caps, then this makes for a potentially interesting next few days or weeks.
One wonders if the club feel there is a chance that Sa could be leaving.
Johnstone would obviously want to be a number one – otherwise, he would not have communicated his desire to leave Palace. So if Wolves are interested, then this may well cast doubt on the future of Sa. As we know, there were reports about Mendes sounding out interest from other clubs earlier this summer.
Sa has proven to be a decent signing since arriving from Olympiacos three years ago. So if Johnstone did come in then, he would be under pressure to deliver.
