Wolves now in three-team transfer battle to sign history-making EFL wonderkid

Wolves are believed to be among the clubs keen on signing 17-year-old Barnsley talent Vimal Yoganathan.

Wolves have a talented academy at Compton Park with Nathan Fraser, Luke Cundle and the 15-year-old Luke Rawlings all looking to be exciting prospects.

The Wolves academy is one which through the years has seen some excellent players emerge too including Robbie Keane and Joleon Lescott.

But Gary O’Neil won’t be content with the young talents and will always be keen to see new talents arrive.

Now, reports have suggested that Wolves are looking to bring a talented EFL 17-year-old to Molineux.

Wolves in three club race for Vimal Yoganathan

According to The Guardian journalist Will Unwin, 17-year-old Sri Lankan, Vimal Yoganathan is sparking quite a bit of interest with three Premier League sides monitoring the midfielder.

Wolves are credited with interest, alongside Bournemouth and Brentford. While Championship playoff hopefuls Southampton also maintain an interest.

Barnsley are also believed to be keen on extending his contract though with a professional deal on the table which leaves him with five options.

To have already made five appearances for the senior side, which includes an FA Cup appearance, he must be a special talent

Vimal Yoganathan is already a history-maker

So now you know who Yoganathan is, it’s important to note that should Wolves sign him, they’ll be getting a player who’s a trailblazer.

Back in October, Yoganathan made history as he became the first Sri Lankan footballer with Tamil heritage to play a professional game in the UK as Sky Sports reported.

This is a special achievement for such a young player, and one which is great to see given the underrepresentation of South Asian footballers in the professional game.

Due to this and the fact he’s a pioneer a move to a Premier League side could be a huge move that goes down in the history books.
