Wolves now eyeing move for ‘fantastic’ Rayan Ait-Nouri rival who played at the 2024 Olympics

Wolves have been linked with a player who can rival Rayan Ait-Nouri for a spot at left wing-back this season.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of their trip to Arsenal, Gary O’Neil confirmed that Wolves transfer budget won’t be too dissimilar from last season.

This won’t have filled supporters with confidence heading into the final few weeks of the window, especially after the club have received £40 million for Max Kilman and most recently, £54 million for Pedro Neto.

There’s an expectation that at least some of those funds will be reinvested into the squad, sourcing replacements for both Kilman and Neto before the deadline.

While two quality players must be signed at centre-back and on the wing, O’Neil is also looking at signing a left-back who can challenge Rayan Ait-Nouri for a place in the starting XI.

Wolves want to sign Stade Rennais left-back Adrien Truffert, Man Utd also linked

After Wolves sent left-back Hugo Bueno on loan to Dutch giants Feyenoord, the Old Gold are left short in that position, with only Ait-Nouri as a left-footed option to select from.

O’Neil is looking to resolve that problem by signing Stade Rennais left-back Adrien Truffert, as per L’Equipe, who report that Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United are interested in the 22-year-old.

Rennes have previously rejected offers for their academy graduate in the past however, if one of the interested parties launched an irrefutable offer, they would be prepared to sell.

Truffert was part of the France team that won silver at the 2024 Olympics and last season, made 43 appearances in all competitions, supplying two goals and seven assists.

Despite previous claims over the Wanderers transfer budget, signing the young Frenchman could be an astute piece of business from the club, who require a new wing-back.

Adrien Truffert can rival Rayan Ait-Nouri at Wolves

Ait-Nouri was one of Wolves’ top performers last term, as the 23-year-old excelled across multiple positions, including as a wing-back, winger and even a striker.

The talented Algerian has attracted interest, as a result, but Fosun must keep one of their prized possessions this summer and instead add competition for him.

Truffert was impressive in the Europa League last term, a competition Wolves would love to return to, with the defender drawing ‘fantastic’ praise for his performances.

He ranked in the top 7% of defenders for progressive passes received, the top 17% for progressive passes and the top 18% for shot-creating actions.

For someone who is still very young, to place that high among the best players in Europe is a testament to Truffert’s talent, who would be a worthy backup for Ait-Nouri this season.
