Wolves’ new highest earner could now leave Molineux after three years as club eye talks

Wolves’ squad will potentially be looking very different for the 2025/26 – and one of the club’s highest earning players could now be on his way out.

Vitor Pereira bagged his first signing of the summer when Fer Lopez joined the club last week.

But the window so far has mainly been about people leaving.

Both Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri have been sold, while Pablo Sarabia and Craig Dawson left as free agents.

Carlos Forbs has returned to Ajax after an unsuccessful loan spell, and there is a chance that Nelson Semedo could soon leave for nothing, although he does have a contract offer on the table.

Another player who could leave Wolves is Goncalo Guedes, with one new club showing interest.

Guedes’ involvement for Wolves in 2024/25 was one of the surprises of the season at Molineux.

The expectation last summer was that he would be moving on, after having loan spells with Benfica and Villarreal.

But Gary O’Neil sprung a surprise by using him in pre-season, and then reintegrating him into Wolves’ squad.

He went on to make 33 appearances for the club across all competitions, and chipped in with 10 goal contributions, although most of those came in the first half of the campaign.

It was recently claimed that Flamengo were interested in Guedes, but now another club are keen.

According to Takvim, Besiktas want to sign Guedes, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer adding the Portuguese to his transfer wish list.

The Turkish giants want talks with Wolves about the player and to understand the conditions of a potential deal.

Besiktas officials are said to be ready to make a great effort to land the 28-year-old, who has been at Wolves since the summer of 2022.

Wolves should cut their losses on Guedes

Guedes made some good contributions last season but ultimately, he has never really given the impression he really wants to stick around.

He has never said as such publicly, and fans have been critical of his body language in games at times.

Appearances – 51
Goals – 7
Assists – 6

Arguably, Wolves should be doing what they can to get him off the books now, even if that does mean taking a big hit on the £25.7 million they paid to sign him from Valencia. The signing of Fer Lopez certainly lessens the need for Guedes.

Guedes recently became Wolves’ highest earner on around £90,000 per week (via Capology) after the exits of Cunha and Sarabia. That is just a huge amount to be paying a player who is not a regular and may not even be all in at Molineux.

Getting those wages off the bill will potentially help Wolves in negotiations to sign new players.
