Wolves name asking price for Chiquinho as European giants prepare bid

Sporting CP are preparing to make a bid for Chiquinho as Wolves lay down their demands for the winger.

This summer transfer window could be crucial for Wolves. After multiple seasons of upheaval, now is the chance for the club to prepare for their long-term future.

Gary O’Neil is the Old Gold’s fourth permanent manager in four years which has resulted in a pile-up of players who are not in the first-team picture.

One such star is Chiquinho. The Portuguese winger has not played for Wolves since the end of the 2021/22 season due to injuries and loans.

The 24-year-old spent the majority of last season on loan to Famalicão after a brief failed spell at Stoke City.

However, in Portugal, Chiquinho impressed on loan which has now resulted in interest from Sporting CP.

Now his loan spell has ended, Chiquinho is back at Wolves and has travelled with the squad to their training camp in Marbella. However, this has not ended any interest in the player.

According to Record, Portuguese giants are preparing to bid for Chiquinho after previously making inquiries for the winger.

It is believed that Wolves are ‘reluctant’ to negotiate a price point for the player and a deal is only possible if they recover the €6 million they paid for him.

Chiquinho is said to be keen to stay in Portugal and play in the Champions League, two boxes that Sporting CP tick.

As a result, the Portuguese giants may explore a loan with the option to buy.

Wolves cannot make Pedro Goncalves mistake with Chiquinho

While a €6 million deal may look good for a player with little future at the club, Wolves must demand more.

Chiquinho clearly impressed in Portugal and is yet to hit the peak of his career. If Sporting are interested he clearly has the potential to become a top player.

A €6 million deal screams similarities to Pedro Goncalves, another Portuguese player who Wolves saw depart back to his homeland. After a great spell at Famalicão, he also moved to Sporting after a year where he is now one of their most valuable players.

If Wolves do let him go, they must demand a bigger fee or at least a sell-on clause. Ideally, they should look to loan him out again to help build up his value and possibly lead to a route back into Wolves’ first team.
