Wolves move for striker Declan Rice called ‘a born goalscorer’ seen as ‘unlikely’

Wolves have reportedly discussed a potential move for West Ham United striker Danny Ings in the January transfer window.

Wanderers are not expected to be spending too much money this month as the club keep an eye on their finances following on from the summer, but it is thought Gary O’Neil really wants to land a new centre forward.

Fabio Silva has already left the club on loan and joined Rangers, while Sasa Kalajdzic may well follow the Portuguese out the exit door.

Che Adams has been mentioned as a potential option, but now there’s been a claim Danny Ings may be a target…

With Wolves not having a great deal to spend this month, the onus will be on finding players who can offer quality but not break the bank.

According to the Telegraph, discussions have been held internally about the 31-year-old.

It is stated that Ings has been discussed in previous windows – but a move this month is currently seen as ‘unlikely’.

That’s despite Ings struggling for game time this season, especially in the Premier League.

Ings has made 17 appearances across all competitions, but for only 408 minutes on the pitch. Just 133 of those minutes have come in the league, with David Moyes preferring to play Jarrod Bowen or Michail Antonio through the middle.

Wolves should set sights higher

There would not be too much clamour from some Wolves fans for the club to sign Ings this month.

Previously, he’s been described as ‘a born goalscorer’ by Declan Rice (whufc.com) but certainly, in more recent times, Ings has not been too good in front of goal – he is yet to score this season and only has three for the Hammers since he joined a year ago.

Wolves may not have a huge amount to spend, but surely the club can land someone more prolific than Ings. By the sounds of the Telegraph’s report, it does look like they are looking at other players right now.

Potentially, if O’Neil can get the right man in, it could be the difference between a push for the European places or sliding back down the table.
