Wolves midfielder who impressed Gary O’Neil in pre-season now set to join Championship club

A player who caught the eye of Gary O’Neil during Wolves’ pre-season is now set to leave the club today.

Wolves will be doing several deals on transfer deadline day.

The club are set to announce at least two new signings in the form of Sam Johnstone and Andre, with Bastien Meupiyou having already come in yesterday. Another centre-back and a wide forward are also on the agenda.

In terms of outgoings, we could be seeing Daniel Podence and Fabio Silva depart. Goncalo Guedes has also been linked with an exit but appears likely to stay now.

Boubacar Traore had been set to leave, but the injury he picked up against Burnley on Wednesday has apparently scuppered his proposed move to Feyenoord.

Another player who looks like he will be leaving before tonight’s deadline, is Luke Cundle.

Luke Cundle was a player looking to catch Gary O’Neil’s eye during pre-season.

The youngster had returned after loan spells with Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City last season.

Cundle did impress O’Neil, who recently spoke about Cundle. He had said that it was up to the player whether he stayed at Molineux.

And it appears Cundle has decided it would be best if he departed.

Alan Nixon is reporting via his Patreon this morning that Cundle is now poised to rejoin Stoke, which was a move that had been rumoured earlier this month.

Journalist Darren Witcoop has also reported Cundle to Stoke ‘will happen today’.

Cundle made 16 appearances for the Potters last term, and is well known to Steven Schumacher who had him at both Stoke and Plymouth.

Cundle heading back to Stoke is a good move

Cundle completing another move to Stoke feels like a good move for him.

While O’Neil would be happy to keep him around, realistically he is not going get that many minutes if he does stay.

He would essentially become the Joe Hodge of last season. Hodge – who did have injury problems – left mid-season to join QPR.

Cundle is a tidy midfield player who Schumacher knows very well, and it will be good for him to go and play under him again.

It just remains to be seen on what kind of basis he will join. TEAMtalk are claiming it will be a loan move, after Stoke did see about a permanent transfer.
