Wolves may now loan out £8.5m player if Gary O’Neil lands his ‘top priority’ before Deadline Day

Wolves could apparently loan out a player they only signed last summer, if they are successful in bringing in their ‘top priority’.

Matt Hobbs is in for a busy few days at Wolves, who now appear to be scrambling to strengthen the squad.

After a positive start to the summer, with three new players coming in, Wolves have been quiet for weeks and Max Kilman and Pedro Neto have both left the club.

More could be leaving, including the likes of Daniel Podence, Fabio Silva and Goncalo Guedes.

But fans are hoping for a couple more new faces at least – and the club reportedly have eyes on Burnley defender Dara O’Shea at this moment in time.

The club have apparently presented a ‘firm offer’.

Now, it is being suggested that this transfer deal could impact one player at Wolves.

It has been claimed by the E&S that defender Santiago Bueno could potentially leave the club on loan, if O’Shea comes in from Burnley.

Bueno was an £8.5 million signing last summer from Girona, and he made 17 appearances for the club in his debut season. At the time of his signing, sporting director Hobbs called the star ‘a perfect fit’ for Wolves.

But Bueno was behind the likes of Max Kilman, Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes in the pecking order, and only really got chances when Dawson picked up an injury towards the end of the campaign.

A lot of fans are still unsure about Bueno. But he did put in some decent performances last term and there is a player there.

But his position in the squad has become weaker this summer, with Yerson Mosquera returning to the squad after two loan spells. The Colombian started alongside Toti in Wolves’ first game against Arsenal last weekend.

According to The Athletic, the signing of a new centre-back is a ‘top priority’ for Wolves in the coming days.

This would be stupidity from Wolves

Wolves loaning out Bueno in the event of a deal for O’Shea would just be silly.

Dawson is not getting any younger and there are question marks whether he’d be able to have the same workload this time around as he did last season.

Mosquera, as promising as he is, still lacks Premier League experience.

Toti does well for Wolves in a back three but there is an argument that Bueno is actually better than him in a back four.

We saw what happened to Wolves last season when injuries took hold so surely O’Neil would want five centre-backs at his disposal rather than four.
