Napoli have officially signed winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – and it potentially opens the door for Wolves to make a transfer for Hirving Lozano.
The Italian outfit have struck a deal to land the Georgia international, and he will join up with the club ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Via Football Italia, Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis confirmed the news on radio after the club’s shock 3-2 defeat to Empoli.
Supposedly the player underwent a secret medical a few weeks ago. He will officially join the club on July 1.
The development has potential significance for Wolves, who have recently been linked with a move for Lozano.
Napoli Today claimed last week that Wanderers have been following the Mexico international’s performances for some time.
The publication cast doubt on him staying at the club beyond the summer.
It was claimed that Wolves would need to fork out around £25 million to sign Raul Jimenez’s international teammate.
Given Napoli’s capture of Kvaratskhelia, it is possible Wolves could now stand an improved chance of signing the former PSV Eindhoven livewire.
Kvaratskhelia tends to play from the left, but his arrival at Napoli would surely affect Lozano were he to stay.
Lozano has played more from the right this term, but has featured a number of times on the other side.
The door may have swung open for Wolves to make Hirving Lozano transfer
This transfer could well place Wolves officials on red alert.
Gazzetta dello Sport (via GIFN) reported earlier this month that Lozano is likely to leave this summer, and this development could increase his chances.
And Wolves might want to test the waters.
It is very possible both Francisco Trincao and Adama Traore will both not be at Molineux next season.
Such a situation would create a need for another winger, and Lozano could be a good addition, and could be someone that helps prompt a renaissance for Jimenez.
