Pedro Neto left Wolves in the summer of 2024, and the Old Gold have never truly replaced him.
Carlos Forbs arrived as a winger on loan last season, and he was meant to slot into the void left by Neto, who is flying at Chelsea at the moment.
However, the player now at Club Brugge failed to make an impact, and when Vitor Pereira arrived at Molineux, the Wanderers switched away from using wingers.
Now that Rob Edwards is in charge, it is clear that the Old Gold are missing a dynamic winger, someone akin to Pedro Neto, who is not afraid to carry the ball up the pitch and take a man on.
And it seems the Wolves board have also noticed the glaring hole in the Wanderers roster, as new links to a winger have come out.
If you are Rob Edwards in January, who is one player you would sell, and one player you’d replace them with? 💰
Wolves targeting Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo
Wolves will be looking to improve the quality across their squad in January, but they may also have one eye on the Championship next summer.
While the calibre of players they can sign will likely be lower than if they stayed up, the priorities needed at Molineux stay the same.
One of the positions needed is a wide forward, and it seems the Old Gold have identified one of their targets.
TEAMtalk have reported that Wolves are showing the ‘strongest interest’ in versatile attacker Matias Fernandez-Pardo but face competition from Brentford, Leeds and West Ham.

While he has no experience in the Premier League, Pardo has played in both the Champions League and Europa League throughout his career so far. However, with a contract to 2029, the report also suggests it could take a ‘sizeable fee’ to secure his signature.
At just 20 years old, he would not have to be included in Wolves’ first-team roster, making navigating his inclusion as a non-homegrown player much easier as well.
Like Fer Lopez, Pardo can be included on the Under-21s list, with those players still being able to feature in the Premier League.
With Jhon Arias being linked with a move away, signing another winger seems to be a sensible transfer decision.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo has similar traits to Pedro Neto
Pedro Neto and Fernandez-Pardo are similar in a lot of ways, particularly in how often they look to dribble with the ball and how frequently they carry it forward.
That sort of dynamic attacker is what is lacking at Wolves, with the strikers often isolated up front.
Out of 10, how would you rate the potential signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo?
His data this season looks eerily similar to Pedro Neto's…
Mateus Mane can be that player for the Wanderers, but they will still need more than one player that can offer those qualities throughout the season.
If Fernandez-Pardo is willing to make the switch, even with relegation a stark possibility, then it could be a shrewd signing by Wolves.
The Lille forward can play anywhere across the frontline, and that sort of versatility is yet another added bonus.
