Wolves make opening offer for midfielder Vitor Pereria wants to replace Mario Lemina – selling club have already responded

Wolves still have some business to do before the close of the January transfer window.

The Old Gold could yet be one of England’s busiest clubs.

Wolves have already signed Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade Reims but Vitor Pereira remains on the lookout for another defender.

The Wolves manager may also need a new midfielder too. Mario Lemina is in talks to join Torino, and should he move to Italy, will need to be replaced.

Wolves make first Johnny Cardoso offer

Determined to bolster his options in midfield, especially if Lemina departs before next week’s Deadline Day, Pereira is targeting Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso.

Although Spurs have first refusal on the midfielder, Ange Postecoglou is unlikely to rival Wolves for the American’s signature.

Wolves already know Cardoso will cost in excess of £21 million, however, according to Diario de Sevilla, the Old Gold have tried their luck with an opening offer worth just £16.7 million (€20 million).

Wolves’ offer falls well short of Real Betis’ asking price so it comes as no surprise to hear the Spaniards have quickly rejected it.

Improved offer needed

If the Wolves owners are serious about signing Cardoso, they will need to increase their offer.

Betis are remaining firm in their stance and want at least £25 million (€30 million) before allowing the American to leave.

As things stand, there are several clubs keen on Cardoso but so far Wolves have been the only side to make a concrete offer.

However, now his side’s business has been made public, Pereira may be fearing other clubs could enter the mix.

It remains to be seen if Wolves will return with a second, and improved offer, but if they do, they’ll need to get a lot closer to the £25 million mark to even be in with a chance of signing the defensive midfielder.
