Wolves made approach to sign ‘technically really strong’ 20-year-old Englishman

Wolves reportedly made an approach to sign Manchester City talent James McAtee – which was rejected.

Wanderers are seeking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season and are mainly looking at free swoops, loans and budget signings.

The club are seemingly still grappling with FFP issues, which has made for a slow summer so far on the incomings front.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Wolves are looking to bring in players like Joao Gomes; unpolished but with huge potential.

And Wolves did apparently look to move for McAtee…

Wolves rebuffed in approach for James McAtee

According to the Daily Mail, Wolves made a move for McAtee, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

But City apparently knocked Wolves back, as they wait to see what happens with other players.

Bernardo Silva is a player who has been heavily linked with an exit at City.

Should he depart, that could mean an opportunity for McAtee, who is one of the biggest prospects at City right now.

Apparently, Wolves asked about the potential for a loan and a permanent move.

McAtee would be an amazing signing for Wolves, he could be an Alex Scott alternative

This is an interesting claim, about a player who could very well explode in the next couple of years.

Englishman McAtee, 20, was superb for Sheffield United in their successful bid for promotion to the Premier League.

He took a bit of time to get going, but finished the season really well at Bramall Lane.

Last term, McAtee created 35 chances for teammates in the Championship. He also completed a respectable 39 dribbles in a league renowned for its tough physical nature (via mancity.com).

Sheffield United reporter James Shield, who watched McAtee every week last season, said of the starlet: “James can obviously play, he’s technically really strong. When you watch him play, you can see someone who just loves to play football and loves to have a ball at his feet – it really does shine through.

“There’s something lovely about watching a player like James, especially in the final third, who you can tell they just love playing football. It’s a really nice thing to see.”

It sounds very much as though McAtee is a similar player to Alex Scott, whom Wolves are seemingly struggling to sign.

If that particular move isn’t going to happen, then Wolves should really consider renewing their efforts to land McAtee.
