Wolves ‘like’ £15m Nottingham Forest star but it would be an ‘ambitious’ move

Wolves are reportedly admirers of a player from Nottingham Forest, but a move would be ‘ambitious’.

Wanderers are now ready to start their pre-season and have just welcomed back a number of players.

Several still haven’t returned due to their involvement with their national teams. But Gary O’Neil will now have the chance to start preparations ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen have all been brought in by Wolves and they will have ample time to bed in and learn how the team plays which is a big positive.

Fans are hoping that there will be more faces coming in over the next couple of months.

And this evening, journalist Ben Jacobs made an interesting claim over on Playback.

Max Kilman has just been sold by Wolves, and all the talk now is who might come in as his replacement.

West Ham United paid £40 million for the centre-back, which has been seen by many as very good business since he only cost £40,000 six years ago.

The likes of David Carmo and Nico Elvedi have been linked in recent days, but on Tuesday night, a new name was offered.

Ben Jacobs was speaking on a new stream over on Playback, and said that he had heard Wolves were admirers of Nottingham Forest defender Murillo.

He said: “I heard some whispers on Murillo. But I’m told if Murillo leaves Forest, and they don’t want him to go, that he wants to play European football. We know that Chelsea have looked at him as well.

“So it would be a pretty ambitious and unlikely move for Wolves to get Murillo. But they like him and he’s the right kind of profile they’re looking for. With Kilman going you would think they might want a left-sided defender to come in rather than a right-sided one.”

What a signing he would be

Murillo joined Forest in a £15 million deal in the summer of 2023, and impressed massively in his first season in England football.

Wolves were actually briefly linked with Murillo before he made his move to the Reds, and it was claimed the club were ready to offer around £11 million. Ultimately, Wolves just couldn’t offer any more money given the financial situation at the time.

Forest certainly think highly of him. They call Murillo ‘one of the most exciting young defenders in world football’ on their official website.

The Brazilian was voted Player of the Season for 2023/24 by Forest fans, and he definitely looked like a serious talent.

He is also greatly admired by former Wolves man Morgan Gibbs-White, who said of Murillo last October (via Nottingham Post): “Honestly, he’s an incredible player.

“His first day of training he made a tackle against me and I felt I felt his power. I felt his strength. I was like, ‘I’m not going near him again’.”

Wolves may like him, but it would be a major shock if he was the man to come in and replace Kilman.
