Wolves learn Manchester City’s stance on James Trafford amid Old Gold interest

Wolves may look to add to their goalkeeping department, with interest in James Trafford now being reported.

January at Wolves will be a fascinating period, as currently there is no telling how the club will approach it.

At the weekend, Edwards suggested that Wolves’ approach may well depend on their league position, and how far off safety the team is.

In recent weeks, there have been suggestions about which positions Wolves may target.

A creative forward is on the agenda for Wolves, and it has also been claimed that Wanderers could pursue a new midfielder.

But it’s also been claimed Wolves might be in the market for a new goalkeeper, and apparently James Trafford might be of interest.

It has been reported by talkSPORT that Wolves hold an interest in James Trafford, who only joined Manchester City in the summer.

Trafford had expected to be the number one for City.

But Pep Guardiola then brought in Gianluigi Donnarumma, which has effectively solidified Trafford’s role as a number two.

James Trafford was absolutely brilliant for Burnley last season, but is he the signing Wolves need in January?⌛

Would this be a sensible move from Wolves or do other positions need prioritising?

Now he’s looking for a route out – and Wanderers are monitoring.

But there is a hurdle for Wolves right now, because talkSPORT report that Guardiola is reluctant to offload Trafford just months after bringing him in, and would instead prefer to get rid of Stefan Ortega.

But it remains to be seen if Trafford will get his desire to leave, having made just six appearances so far since his £27 million transfer.

Trafford to Wolves could see Jose Sa leave

It will be interesting to see if Wolves make a push to sign Trafford in January.

The goalkeeper position is arguably not one that absolutely needs strengthening next month, because Sam Johnstone has had a decent season so far.

However, there is no denying Trafford is a talented stopper, and is unlucky to find himself in the position he currently does.

Wolves may see an opportunity to sign a new goalkeeper for the long term, if City do change their stance.

Perhaps a loan move could be an option if Wolves cannot stump up the cash for a permanent move.

If Trafford comes, then it’s hard to see Jose Sa sticking around. The Portuguese has lost his place as the number one this season, and his contract will only have 18 months left on it in January. So Wolves may seek to sell.
