Wolves learn eye-watering fee Nantes want for Matthis Abline amid enquiry

Matthis Abline is the latest attacker to be linked with a move to Wolves as Vitor Pereira looks to strengthen attacking depth.

Links emerged on Friday between Wolves and Matthis Abline, a French forward currently playing for Nantes in Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old has come up as a target for Sunderland and Leeds United this summer, and Wolves are yet another side considering his talents.

Reports from France reveal a bid was made for Abline, which Nantes quickly rejected.

Wolves may now have a better idea of what it would take to sign the Frenchman after a bid from Paris FC was rejected, as L’Equipe reports.

The article also reveals Nantes president Waldemar Kita has stated that the club value Abline at a staggering £43 million, but no one has come close to that figure with an official bid.

For Wolves to get this deal done, they will have to find the sweet spot between those two numbers, ideally around the £30 million mark.

Wolves have made approximately £100 million in sales, and have spent £60 million on new signings for Vitor Pereira, so even in Fosun’s sustainable model, the money should be there. Fabio Silva’s potential sale could give them more room to manoeuvre.

Wolves need to make at least three more signings before deadline day

An attacker is an absolute must for Wolves, after a host of departures in that department. Equally important is a right-back to replace Nelson Semedo.

An extra midfielder and centre-back would also arrive in an ideal world, though that depends on how much there is left to spend after the two vital additions are made.

Vitor Pereira’s ambitions with Wolves require investment. Having lost a handful of key starters from last season, failing to invest in the squad could have catastrophic consequences, especially when you look at the level of expenditure of promoted sides like Sunderland.

But the club usually pull things together late in the window, and there are enough players linked to Wolves to suggest there’s progress being made behind the scenes.
