Wolves learn Everton’s stance on a January move for Dwight McNeil

Wolves’ January transfer window rebuild is yet to get underway, despite plenty of calls for the squad to be strengthened.

Jeff Shi was proud of how he conducted Wolves’ summer transfer window, feeling he had given Vitor Pereira a ‘good window’ and the resources to kick on.

However, that couldn’t be further from the truth, as this season has developed into a record-breaking one for all the wrong reasons for Wolves.

19 games in the Premier League and zero wins, which sees the Old Gold on just three points and still eight points adrift from Derby County’s lowest ever points record.

Given the dire start, there are improvements to be had right across the pitch.

But in typical Fosun fashion, it seems as Wolves’ spending will all be dependent on player sales.

Everton’s stance on Dwight McNeil deals a blow to Wolves

Wolves have been tipped as a potential destination for Dwight McNeil, given his limited minutes in the Premier League at Everton this season.

A creative midfielder has to be high up on Wolves’ radar given their creativity issues this season, as well as Fer Lopez’s seemingly imminent exit.

However, Everton has halted any progress Rob Edwards may have hoped to make with McNeil.

According to the Daily Mail, David Moyes is reluctant to let Dwight McNeil leave Everton right now, which could be due to Iliman Ndiaye being away at the African Cup of Nations.

Wolves cannot fall for the same transfer mistake

Dwight McNeil could offer Wolves a vital combination of Premier League experience and creative output at a time when the club is desperate to climb out of the relegation zone.

Known for his crossing ability and disciplined defensive work rate, McNeil would provide a much-needed safety net and technical quality that Wolves have lacked this season.

However, with Everton manager David Moyes currently facing a thin squad and showing reluctance to sanction his departure, a deal is far from certain.

Rob Edwards cannot afford to remain stagnant while waiting for Everton to decide on McNeil’s availability. Matt Jackson and his team must act decisively on alternative targets.

Whether it is pursuing options like Sam Surridge to bolster the strike force or looking for other wide players, Wolves need immediate reinforcements to support Edwards.
