Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen and Newcastle United saga isn’t over yet after double update

Newcastle reached an agreement for Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, but Wolves may not be out of the woods yet.

The news of Newcastle finally signing a striker was well-received by their fans, and also by Wolves.

The Magpies were going in hard for Jorgen Strand Larsen, sending multiple bids this week, but the German’s arrival on Tyneside has taken the pressure off.

Or so we thought.

Newcastle still want either Jorgen Strand Larsen or Yoane Wissa

Despite bringing in a new face, Newcastle still want another striker, as has been their stance since Alexander Isak decided he wanted a move to Anfield.

The initial thought when Woltemade was announced was that it rules out Strand Larsen, being a somewhat similar profile.

But an update from Sky Sports now suggests that’s not the case.

Whether they are all that similar is subjective. They are both big strikers who can get up for a header, but in terms of their actual play they are quite different.

Woltemade plays much smaller than his 6’6″ frame suggests, good with the ball at his feet and pacey running in behind.

Strand Larsen is more of a traditional centre-forward, doing his best work in the box and using his strength to go past defenders.

It’s understandable that Wolves fans might be getting sick of all the back and forth on this topic, especially considering the club’s stance.

Wolves’ stance is still ‘not for sale’

Maybe this is all a waste of time.

Jeff Shi is adamant Strand Larsen won’t be leaving, with the latest rumours suggesting Jorge Mendes has architected this situation without basis.

The problem is, Newcastle are still pursuing. Normally, a club that thinks they haven’t got a shot at a signing won’t table three bids. There has to be some crack in the Wolves front.

This time next week, we’ll know if all this Newcastle speculation was worth stressing about.

For now, we just have to keep worrying, hoping Fosun and Shi can keep themselves from folding.
