Wolves interested in Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo

Wolves are reportedly interested in Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo.

Julen Lopetegui has not had any incomings so far this summer, with the club offloading two central defenders in Nathan Collins and Conor Coady, and also Ruben Neves.

At the moment, there are only three options to play at centre-back – Max Kilman, Toti Gomes and Craig Dawson.

A new centre-half should definitely be on the agenda.

And it looks like Wolves could now be looking at the South American market again…

Wolves interested in Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo

According to Goal Brasil, Wanderers are showing an interest in Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo.

Beraldo, 19, made his debut for the club back in May 2022 in the Copa Sudamericana.

He’s racked up 30 first-team appearances for Sao Paulo to date, and has caught the eye with his performances.

It is stated that Wolves have no yet sent an official proposal to the Brazilian outfit. But it is then said that Wolves have given indications that they could offer something close to €7 million (£6 million).

Wolves continue to assess the defender’s situation, and could soon come forward with a bid.

Beraldo is said to be represented by the company Casa Soccer. But he has recently been in contact with businessmen Felipe D’Emilio and Felipe Tancredi. The duo represent attacking midfielder Gustavo Scarpa, and facilitated his move to Nottingham Forest.

They apparently intend to act in the negotiations for the sale of the player.

Wolves eyeing another Joao Gomes-type signing?

Information on Beraldo is quite thin on the ground.

But BVB Buzz say that the starlet is ‘a prolific talent in the centre-back position’, and ‘regarded as one of the best young players in the country’. They describe him as ‘a left-footed defender with strong ball skills and good positioning’.

This would undoubtedly be a risky signing by Wolves if the intention is to get Beraldo involved the first-team right away.

While he seemingly has big potential, he’s still only 19 which means he is inexperienced.

But it was reported earlier this summer that Wolves were going to try and sign more players like Joao Gomes (young, unpolished but with a high ceiling).

And this proposed move seemingly matches up with those earlier suggestions.
