Wolves are interested in a player who was relegated from the Premier League last season.
Gary O’Neil has brought in three new faces already this summer, and also turned Tommy Doyle‘s loan move from Manchester City permanent.
But there will likely be some more additions, as the manager seeks to really bolster his squad for 2024/25. He does not want to be left short like he was in the second half of last season.
Currently, O’Neil has four central midfield options, and also Joe Hodge and Luke Cundle who were both loaned out last season.
Potentially Hodge and Cundle could both leave again this summer, and there could be space for a new midfield addition.
And seemingly, Wolves do have their eye on one player who could come in.
Wolves interested in Sheffield United Gustavo Hamer

It has been reported today by The Sun (via their print edition, 14/07, p. 59), that Wolves are now interested in Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer.
Wanderers have also been credited with an interest in Hamer’s Blades teammate Anel Ahmedhodzic.
At this stage there is not a great deal of information provided, other than that there is interest on Wolves’ part.
Hamer made 38 appearances for Sheffield United in his first season with the club after joining from Coventry City.
It was a woeful season for United as they finished rock bottom of the Premier League, being relegated with the most goals ever in the competition.
But Hamer was one of their better players, and he could bring them some decent money to help them rebuild.
According to former Sheffield United player Carl Asaba, Hamer was one of the few to really stand out at Bramall Lane. He said (via Sheffield United official YouTube): “Real quality. I’ve thought over the last few weeks his actual fitness and ability to cover the ground has excelled. He’s getting better and better and when the ball got to him [against Burnley] and he cut inside, you’re waiting for the ball to nestle because he has that ability.
“You’re just wishing a few of the big moments had fallen to Gus, because he’s one player who has produced this season.”
Hamer was one of Sheffield United’s most productive players last term, scoring five goals and laying on eight assists.
Wolves don’t need Hamer right now
This will be one to keep an eye on but at the moment, Hamer is not really a player Wolves desperately need.
O’Neil has four great central midfield options right now and maybe one of Hodge or Cundle will be kept around for next season to make it five.
That said, Boubacar Traore was linked with Lens last week, and if he went then perhaps Wolves would step up their pursuit of the £30,000-a-week Hamer.
But Traore is not a player Wolves should be looking to offload. Even though he’s behind Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes in the pecking order, he has shown some promising signs and potentially he could play more in 2024/25.
