Wolves in transfer hunt for £16m-rated midfielder, one World Cup winner thinks he’s ‘excellent’

Vitor Pereira is threatening to rescue Wolves from relegation and if he does, he will want to assemble a squad that can climb up the division.

Pereira arrived at Molineux when Wolves were four points adrift of safety under Gary O’Neil and now, the Old Gold have moved nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The Wanderers have established a healthy cushion between them and 18th-place Ipswich Town, with the sides below needing to pull off a miracle to overhaul the deficit.

Since Wolves’ chances of survival are high, attention has turned towards the summer transfer window and several players have already been linked.

Wolves are interested in Christos Mouzakitis, the teenage talent who plays for Olympiacos, and he isn’t the only midfielder who has caught their eye.

Wolves have made contact to sign Caspar Jander

According to BILD, Wolves and Premier League rivals Brentford have contacted Bundesliga 2 side FC Nuremberg about the availability of midfielder Caspar Jander.

The report claims Nuremberg have demanded upwards of €20 million (£16 million) for the 22-year-old, who has impressed in the heart of midfield this term.

The German side are battling for a place in the Bundesliga and Jander has played a vital part, recording three goals and six assists in 25 appearances.

Jander, who has been tipped to become a future star of the German national team, sees his contract expire in June 2028, protecting the club financially.

Former World Cup-winning striker and current Nuremberg boss Miroslav Klose has also dubbed Jander as ‘excellent’, telling of how highly he rates him.

What Jander would bring to Wolves

Jander is a type of midfielder whose actions can often go under the radar. He’s key to shutting opposition attacks down with his incredible work rate and ability to intercept the ball.

The German youngster also provides a platform for starting attacks with his intricate footwork and impressive passing range, rarely giving possession away.

Wolves already have a player in the shape of Andre who does a similar job but Jander would complement the Brazilian well and supply an extra option in the middle of the park.

Caspar Jander’s 2024/25 stats
3 goals
6 assists
9 big chances created
90% pass completion
1.4 key passes per game
3.2 tackles per game
5.8 balls recovered per game

The only question mark hanging over the midfield metronome is whether he can have the desired impact on one of Europe’s big five leagues.

But considering Wolves are among many clubs interested in him, perhaps that will be known sooner rather than later.
