Wolves in transfer battle with Arsenal for ‘commanding’ MLS goalkeeper

Wolves are said to be showing interest in MLS goalkeeper Patrick Schulte ahead of the summer transfer window.

At the moment, Jose Sa is firmly established as the number one at Molineux.

While he can have his moments, the 29-year-old often comes in clutch for Wolves and earlier this season he was rewarded with a new contract.

It was reported that Julen Lopetegui was keen to strengthen the goalkeeper position, but that is not something Gary O’Neil is anywhere near as keen to do.

But Wolves have now been linked with Patrick Schulte – who is also interesting some other big clubs…

According to Transfermarkt, Wolves have been showing interest in Schulte and following his development closely.

It is stated that Schulte’s club Columbus Crew could factor in moves for Gabriel Slonina and Dorde Petrovic when setting their asking price.

Those two goalkeepers both made moves to Chelsea from MLS clubs in the last couple of years.

Apparently, both Arsenal and Manchester United are also showing interest in Schulte, with the Gunners seeing him as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale.

Schulte was a ‘crucial factor in winning the 2023 MLS Cup’, and has carried his excellent form over to the 2024 season.

Currently, Columbus sit third in the Eastern Conference league table, but are level on points with leaders Inter Miami.

Wolves looking for a new back-up?

There has been no indication that O’Neil is not happy with Jose Sa, so perhaps Wolves are looking at a potential new back-up.

Dan Bentley is brilliant in terms of what he brings off the pitch, and the push he provides Sa with is good. He is one of the leaders in the dressing room.

But he hasn’t really convinced between the sticks when he has played, and it may be that Wolves are thinking about making a change there.

Schulte is described as ‘Strong on the line and commanding in the box’ with his development from a college player to a pro in MLS being ‘remarkable’.
