Wolves in talks to sign 26-year-old who was the best passer in his division in 2022/23

Wolves are in talks to sign Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach โ€“ and it would appear the man really knows how to pass a football.

Wanderers look like they are about to finally get the ball rolling this summer with some incomings.

The club have taken some time to get a few players out of the door, recouping around ยฃ80 million.

That left some fans a little worried.

But it looks like there will now be movement on the incomings front.

Matt Doherty is expected to complete a return to the club as a free agent.

And Elvedi also looks like he will come โ€“ and in the Swiss star, Wolves have seemingly found a really solid ball-player.

Wolves target Nico Elvedi had highest pass success rate in the Bundesliga last term

According to WhoScored, Elvedi actually finished last season with the highest pass success rate in the Bundesliga with 91.7%, putting him slightly ahead of Matthijs de Ligt, Niklas Sule and Ko Itakura.

That is a seriously impressive figure.

And this is not a one-off for Elvedi.

At the end of the 2021/22 season he finished with an even higher figure of 92.1%. And in 2020/21, he had 91.2%.

The lowest pass success rate heโ€™s ever head in the league, according to WhoScored, was in 2017/18. He still finished the season with a brilliant figure of 83.5%.

Nico Elvedi could be an absolute bargain for Wolves

These passing statistics make for really impressive reading.

Yes there is always a lot of sideways passing when it comes to centre-backs. But to have been above 90% in each of the last few seasons is amazing.

Wolves just lost a ball-playing centre-half in Nathan Collins.

It is little wonder Julen Lopetegui wants a player like this. The Spaniard wants Wolves to be better at playing from the back.

It looks as though Elvedi would be a very solid replacement for the Republic of Ireland international.

Obviously Elvedi has a lot more experience under his belt and would likely not be prone to the same kind of errors Collins can be.

Elvedi only has one year remaining on his contract with Gladbach.

So potentially, Wanderers could be about to do some brilliant business here.
