Wolves officials reportedly have reservations about Dion Sanderson’s ability to step up to the Premier League, with the player set to depart Molineux this summer.
The Athletic have reported this morning on what is likely to be happening in the next window with each Wolves player.
It is set to be a summer of chopping and changing, with Julen Lopetegui looking for a strong first summer window as manager.
A number of experienced heads will be leaving, but also some players on the fringes too.
It looks like one of those will be Sanderson.
It was reported earlier this year that Wolves were open to cashing in on the 23-year-old. Apparently, there has been interest from Stoke City, which is where Wolves loaned Matija Sarkic and Ki-Jana Hoever.
The Athletic say that the reason Wolves have this stance is because they have reservations about Sanderson’s ability to step up to the top-flight.
It is noted that his ability in possession is not quite where it needs to be.
Sanderson has only ever made one first-team appearance for Wolves, which came against Aston Villa in a Carabao Cup match a couple of seasons ago.
The youngster has had a few spells out on loan in recent times with the likes of Sunderland, Cardiff City, Birmingham City and QPR.
He’s impressed in his latest stint with Birmingham.
Their manager John Eustace did say publicly earlier this year that he wanted to keep him permanently.
And when he was at Sunderland, Lee Johnson branded him a ‘Rolls Royce’ defender.
Dion Sanderson set to leave Wolves – the club should consider inserting a buy-back
So it looks as though Sanderson will be departing Molineux this summer.
He’s impressed at St. Andrew’s. But seemingly, Wolves feel he isn’t quite there in terms of making the step up to the Premier League.
But Sanderson is clearly a talent and still has a lot of room to develop.
So perhaps it would be in Wolves’ best interests to insert a buy-back option when they come to sell.
If the player happens to makes big strides, at least then there would be a chance for Wolves to bring him back to the club.
