Wolves have potentially just received a big blow in their pursuit of transfer target David Carmo

David Carmo is reportedly one of Wolves’ main targets to place Max Kilman – but one new report has now cast doubt over a potential move to Molineux.

Wolves’ links to Carmo were reported earlier this week to have the ‘most substance’ behind them by journalist Ben Jacobs.

The star spent the second half of last season on loan at Greek giants Olympiacos, and he impressed as he helped them to win the Europa Conference League.

Wolves have reportedly been monitoring the player, as have newly promoted Leicester City.

Olympiacos have been keen to re-sign him following his loan spell.

But all three of these clubs may now be disappointed given what was reported last night.

It has been reported by A Bola that Carmo is actually keen to remain with his current club FC Porto and fight for his place.

He has apparently communicated this decision to Olympiacos officials, given they had really wanted to have him back after his loan spell.

A Bola also publish some recent quotes from Porto’s director of football Jorge Costa. He said: “David Carmo is doing the pre-season with us. He’s a player that the coach appreciates. We’re at an early stage of the season and we’re analysing everything, every situation.

“But clearly David Carmo is an asset of FC Porto and a player who is part of our plans.”

Porto have some financial problems at the moment and are expected to sell players this summer. But seemingly, Carmo – who was said to be valued at around £15 million – is not someone they’re looking to sell.

Given the player’s stance, it now looks like a move to Molineux will be unlikely.

A potential blow for Wolves

So it may be that Carmo wants to stay at Porto and fight for his place, which is somewhat understandable if true.

Ultimately, Porto can offer European football which is something Wolves obviously cannot. They will be playing in the Europa League in 2024/25, a competition that Carmo shone in last season with Olympiacos.

Since moving to Porto in the summer of 2022, Carmo has only made 27 appearances and hasn’t yet established himself there, so it would make sense that he wouldn’t want to move on this summer.

But the picture could well change as the summer goes on.

Wolves may be able to offer him regular football following the sale of Kilman, and will likely be able to offer him a decent increase on his current wages. The latest claim is a potential blow, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that’ll be the end of it.
