Wolves handed blow in race for £52m star as two European giants enter situation after Crystal Palace

Wolves have been handed yet another blow in the race for a long-term target.

The Old Gold have had a poor start to the Premier League season, and eyes should already be on strengthening in the January window.

Vitor Pereira’s side are bottom of the league and currently struggling to score and create chances.

Adding another attacker would be a big boost for the Molineux side.

Reports have recently said they are still interested in a young Brazilian forward and that a move in the winter could be possible.

However, that seems to have hit a snag based on the latest update.

Wolves have had a long-term interest in Wallace Yan.

That interest hit a roadblock over the summer after Yan signed a new contract, and since then they have been touted to still admire the player.

Recently, Crystal Palace entered the fray, threatening another Uche scenario after opening talks with the player.

If the Old Gold really wanted to sign Yan, they would have to fend off the Eagles, but now a move for the player looks to be much harder.

According to journalist Julio Cesar Santo via Somos Fanaticos, Porto and Benfica are now monitoring the Flamengo star.

The information says, “Porto and Benfica are likely to be the main contenders, as the presence of both Portuguese clubs in the negotiations could raise the bar.”

Wallace Yan’s release clause is very high

Even if Wolves were to make a move, the reported release clause of Wallace Yan is £52 million, a fee Fosun are unlikely to pay.

If a transfer for the starlet were to transpire, they would have to negotiate a much lower fee. Even then, who is to say that Porto, Benfica, or Crystal Palace would not also make the same offer?

At the moment, all three of those sides are looking like better prospects.

Wolves do need another attacker, specifically at left wing, but they should probably stay away from Wallace Yan.

The financials do not make much sense for an unproven talent when Wolves need a plug-and-play option that can make an instant impact.
