Wolves going head-to-head with Premier League rival for two transfer targets wanted by Vitor Pereira

Wolves are taking the January transfer window to the wire as Vitor Pereira continues to search for reinforcements.

It’s been a frustrating window for Wolves, who have already missed out on two primary transfer targets.

First, Wolves failed to land Manu Silva, who instead signed for Benfica, with history repeating itself weeks later.

Kevin Danso’s transfer to Wolves was hijacked by Tottenham, who wasted no time completing the deal and unveiling the Austrian.

Wolves and Crystal Palace battling for identical transfer targets

Deadline day is only hours away, raising the pressure at Compton Park as Wolves’ hierarchy look to deliver new signings.

As time ticks down to the deadline, Wolves are expected to complete several moves, with fresh targets reported.

It’s understood that Wolves want to pull off at least three transfers before deadline day, recruiting in defence, midfield and attack.

For now, two defensive signings have emerged but, the Old Gold aren’t the only Premier League side eyeing them.

Journalist Mike McGrath reported that while Wolves’ interest in centre-back Nasser Djiga of Red Star Belgrade has been ‘rebuffed’, the Midlands club could look at the 22-year-old again.

Crystal Palace are also interested in the Burkina Faso international, which is the same story for fellow target Danilho Doekhi.

Sources close to Molineux News confirmed Wolves’ interest in Doekhi, who represents Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.

Palace are also on the Dutchman’s trail, making for a dramatic transfer race involving two targets before Monday night’s deadline.

Wolves cannot afford to miss out to another rival

The window so far has been a tormenting one for Wolves, who simply must land their next target before time runs out.

With Crystal Palace in the frame, the Old Gold must step up their pursuit of one, or both, Doekhi and Djiga.

As seen above, the two centre-backs have been instrumental for their respective teams so far this season, both being right-sided central defenders.

Wolves undoubtedly need another defender if they are to continue to compete in the Premier League, with all eyes on Jeff Shi and Matt Hobbs to get a deal over the line.
