Wolves given Gerard Martin transfer boost as Barcelona stance on deal ‘cannot be ignored’

Wolves could let history repeat itself this summer by signing a full-back from Barcelona.

In 2020, Wolves signed Nelson Semedo from the Catalan giants, securing a shock deal to acquire the Portugal international.

Though Semedo is likely to leave Wolves this summer, the Old Gold are aiming to get one step ahead, with a number of full-backs on the radar.

Rayan Ait-Nouri’s exit to Manchester City increased the need to sign a wide defender, making Wolves’ links to Gerard Martin no surprise.

Barcelona acknowledge they can’t ignore Wolves’ interest in Gerard Martin

Wolves can sign Martin for just £10m from Barcelona this summer, on the back of the 23-year-old’s first season in the club’s first team.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a rapid rise in Catalonia and now could be set to test himself in the Premier League.

It’s understood that while Martin would prefer to stay at Barcelona, Wolves are willing to offer the defender a lucrative package to lure him to Molineux, something that could be decisive.

Though the player has his reservations, it’s reported in Spain that Barcelona have an opposing view of possibly cashing in on their upcoming talent.

According to AS, Wolves’ interest in Martin is something that ‘cannot be ignored’ by Barcelona, who have suffered their fair share of financial issues in recent years.

Given that the Spanish champions could earn a hefty profit on the full-back, who was signed for just €200k, before his value doubled when he was promoted to the first team just a year later.

Barcelona understand that the prospect of cashing in on Martin for as much as €12m this summer would bolster their economic outlook, giving Wolves a tremendous boost.

Martin could be a bargain signing for Wolves

£10m for Martin could give Barcelona a healthy profit, and for Wolves, it could deliver a top-quality defender to Molineux for a bargain price.

It appears from the array of Spanish reports that the one stumbling block over the deal is whether the player wants the transfer, but Wolves are hoping to change his mind with a salary increase.

After losing Ait-Nouri, signing Martin, a Champions League-proven player, could restore the faith in the squad and, most importantly, on the left side.

Barcelona want a deal to happen, as do Wolves, setting the scene up nicely for a possible transfer.
