Wolves feel they actually won’t sign 17-goal target now this summer

Wolves reportedly don’t think they will sign a player they have been linked with since 2023.

The squad have now flown out to Marbella for the first part of their pre-season training, with Gary O’Neil set to put some of his squad through their paces.

Players like Pedro Neto, Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo and Joao Gomes are not yet with their teammates having been on international duty.

New signings Jorgen Strand Larsen, Pedro Lima and Rodrigo Gomes have all flown out, as they seek to settle in before the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Strand Larsen is probably the new signing fans are most excited about.

The Norwegian striker hit 13 goals in La Liga last season, and the hope is that he can help Wolves to become more clinical.

As a result of signing Strand Larsen, it looks like a move for one previous target will not be happening.

Wolves have wanted a striker for some time.

In January, O’Neil wanted to bring in Armando Broja, but the financial situation at the time did not allow it.

Now, Wolves have signed Strand Larsen – and it looks as though that transfer will now bring an end to Wolves’ interest in one player they’ve been keeping tabs on since last year.

Che Adams was a player Wolves tried to bring in on deadline day last summer, only for Southampton to block the move at the eleventh hour.

Journalist Ben Jacobs was speaking about Wolves on a stream over on Playback, and dropped a line about the Scotland international.

He said: “Southampton are still hoping that he just extends, but it’s not done yet. I think Wolves feel they’re not going to get him.”

Adams scored 17 goals across all competitions last season, helping the Saints achieve promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Interesting phrasing

It is perhaps easy to say that Wolves won’t sign Adams – who was on £30,000 per week – now this summer because Strand Larsen has already come in.

It was also claimed earlier this week that Wolves had belief in Matheus Cunha to improve on last season and that the club were not prioritising another striker.

But the phrasing from Jacobs is interesting.

It is almost as though Wolves are still interested, but they just don’t feel they will sign him. Perhaps this is due to the player wanting to extend.

It could also be down to the fact that Nottingham Forest are also keen on the player, as are Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
