Wolves fans react to Sven Botman comments after club's deadline day inaction

Wolverhampton Wanderers were unable to bring in a new central defender on transfer deadline day.

Despite the clamour of the fans, and Bruno Lage suggesting publicly that he wanted new faces, Wolves finished the window with a whimper.

Hwang Hee-chan was the final incoming at Molineux.

His move was made official a couple of days before the window closed.

The South Korean was unveiled at Molineux just before Wolves’ game with Manchester United.

As the transfer deadline approached, Wolves became linked with a move for Lille star Sven Botman.

The Dutchman was said to be a late target for the club.

But ultimately, a deal was not done.

Jeff Shi has since said that Wolves couldn’t do a deal for someone who was better than the current defensive options at the club.

He also said suggested there was money to spend.

Botman has actually spoken about the situation for the first time.

He said: “No (I’m not disappointed), I’m too happy at Lille for that. I play at the top of French football. The Champions League is about to start.

“That’s good for me too. Sometimes opportunities come along you might want to go for. I’m in no rush – but I was open to (a move).”

Wolves fans have been reacting to those final remarks in particular.

Botman saying he was open to a move is not a great look for the Wolves board, especially given Shi’s latest comments.

It suggests that maybe Botman could have wound up at Molineux if the club had really wanted to make it happen.
