Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly enquired about signing William Carvalho from Real Betis.

A report from Estadio Deportivo has claimed that Wolves re-opened talks with the Spanish side around a week ago, but have been unable to put forth a suitable offer for the powerhouse midfielder.

It is explained that Wolves’ deal for Willian Jose took up most of the finances they had to play with, meaning a move this window was not possible.

Carvalho is said to have a preference for joining Wolves in the knowledge there is a strong Portuguese contingent at the club.

Interestingly, he isn’t actually a client of the Gestifute agency as many would expect, but having so many Portugese senior and youth internationals could well be a big lure for the player.

Carvalho has been with Betis since transferring from Sporting CP in 2018.

He is a defensive midfielder known for being steely, but he also pretty decent technical quality.

The star is described by Tuga Scout as being in the Ruben Neves mould, offering ‘defensive intuition’, ‘an excellent reading of the game’ and an ‘excellent passing range’.

Some Wolves fans have been reacting to the claims coming from Spain today, and it’s clear that some would absolutely love to see Carvalho come to Molineux:
