Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady is apparently the subject of interest from Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old is on the Magpies’ radar ahead of the January transfer window according to The Sun.

So far, Coady has started every Premier League game for Wolves this season.

There had been a bit of chat about how much he would play under Bruno Lage this term.

The 45-year-old was known to prefer a 4-4-2 system at Benfica.

So far in 2021/22 though, Lage has stuck with the formation Nuno Espirito Santo was using.

Coady has therefore retained his place, with Max Kilman and Romain Saiss operating either side of him.

At the moment, Newcastle currently have the second-worst defence in the Premier League.

They’ve shipped 20 goals in their nine games so far.

There is no doubt about it – Newcastle will busy in January following their recent takeover.

Whether a bid for Coady will be incoming will be very interesting.

A move is surely unlikely, with Coady having signed a new deal only last year.

Wolves are also short on centre-back options at the moment, and Saiss and Willy Boly will both be heading off to AFCON in January.

It would be a huge surprise if the club allowed Coady to depart mid-season.

Wolves fans react

On social media some fans have been giving their reactions to the claim.

Some would allow him to go, but quite a lot of others recognise what he brings in terms of leadership and also the fact that Wolves really don’t have a lot of options at the back:
