Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Dion Sanderson will officially spend the 2021/22 season on loan at Birmingham City.

The central defender will now head back to the Championship, after spending last term with League One Sunderland.

Sanderson had a spell in the English second tier with Cardiff City in 2019/20.

Wolves have confirmed that Sanderson has penned a new four-year contract with the club in the process.

That comes after he reportedly rejected one previous offer.

Technical director Scott Sellars said of the 21-year-old: “He won Sunderland’s Young Player of the Year, which was fantastic.

“We wanted him to progress, to try challenge him again. He’s getting close to full fitness and the opportunity to go to Birmingham and play Championship football was great for him and great for the club as well.”

Sellars went on to claim that Wolves had ‘four or five’ offers from Championship clubs to take Sanderson for the coming season.

Hopefully, the player can be a success at St. Andrews and perhaps make a case to be in the Wolves first-team squad for the 2022/23 season.

He has previously declared his intent to play in the Premier League with Wolves.
