Wolves fans praise Jeff Shi after astonishing claim about Jorge Mendes, ‘redemption arc’

To say it has been a turbulent summer at Wolves is an understatement.

The transfer window will close on Monday night, meaning only a few more days left to get things done – and Wolves are going to be busy.

A new striker is on the agenda, and Vitor Pereira also wants a new midfielder.

These two signings are on the cards, but don’t account for players leaving.

And there is potential for some to still depart, with Hwang Hee-chan linked with an exit despite Pereira wanting to keep him.

But one man who looks like he could now be staying is Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Strand Larsen has been the subject of an intense pursuit by Newcastle United, who have seen two bids rejected for the Norwegian.

But they’re now going after Nick Woltemade of Stuttgart, likely meaning they won’t move for Wolves’ number nine.

It would seem Wolves’ stance has sent the Magpies’ packing. But that stance was seemingly not shared by all members involved in Wolves’ recruitment.

It was claimed earlier tonight that Jorge Mendes gave encouragement to Newcastle to sign Strand Larsen.

This is at odds with the stance that Wolves have been taking over the player, which is that he is not for sale.

Wolves have been determined to keep Strand Larsen knowing that they’d risk their Premier League status by offloading him this late in the window.

It was claimed chairman Jeff Shi had personally stepped in and told Strand Larsen he would not be sold.

The claim about Mendes has angered Wolves fans, but supporters have actually praised Shi for acting firmly over a challenging situation.

@T_R_U_E_W_O_L_F: “Best thing Jeff has done in about 3 years.”

@Sutt3y: “Go on Jeff.”

@foleywwfc: “Who are you and what have you done with Jeff?”

@TheOldGoldNews: “Jeff Shi actually doing something good for once.”

@WomWolf93: “I think Jeff is learning from that time we were chasing top 6 and he let Adama leave on a loan to Barcelona with no obligation.”

Shi deserving of praise over Strand Larsen situation

Jeff Shi has not been the most popular of figures at Wolves in recent times.

Undoubtedly, he has made mistakes, and fans have been critical of him in his role as chairman with the club having declined over the past few years.

But with this challenging situation with Newcastle and Strand Larsen, he does deserve some credit.

Many will have expected him to sanction his sale, given the money that has been offered. Fosun have been more than happy to sell key players for big profits.

But clearly, there is an acknowledgment that Wolves’ Premier League status could come under severe threat if Strand Larsen was sold.

As for Mendes, Wolves need to be very careful, if it’s true that he was giving encouragement to Newcastle to move for Strand Larsen.

He is supposed to be serving in Wolves’ interests after the recruitment restructure. But if that was the case then he would not have been helping another Premier League club try to land the star striker at Molineux, while Shi and others were standing firm.
