Wolves fans delighted as talks opened for last-gasp addition, ‘smart business’

Wolves needed to finish the transfer window strongly, and the club are now in talks to sign a long term target.

Wanderers lost their third Premier League game on Saturday, crashing to defeat against Everton at Molineux.

Fans are very concerned right now, and there is a growing feeling that a relegation battle awaits in 2025/26, after game-changing players left the club.

The players Wolves have signed are promising, but ultimately unproven. So far, none of them have really set the world alight.

Wolves desperately need a strong finish to the window.

Tolu Arokodare is flying to England to complete a move to Wolves, which is a positive move.

But Wolves have also now opened talks with Josh Brownhill, who recently left Burnley at the end of his contract.

Brownhill becoming a free agent was always likely to lead to some speculation of a late move to Wolves.

He is a player who’s been on Wolves’ radar for a long time, but now a move could finally come to fruition.

Brownhill has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, where he could obviously earn a fortune.

But the 29-year-old might be wanting to stay in England and play in the Premier League.

News of Wolves’ talks with Brownhill has reached Wolves fans this morning on X – and plenty feel this is a great opportunity for the club, as Pereira hunts a new midfielder.

@Matty_135790: “Brownhill on a free makes sense imo, HG, free agent and frees up extra funds for another attacker ideally another number 10 type player. VP said yesterday he wants to add two more attacking players (lad from Genk) and someone else so all round makes sense to me.”

@Jamie_wwfc23: “Guy’s got a lot to offer us I think – it concerns me that we could of gone for this guy all summer. Is he going to be fit? What’s he been doing all summer 🐺”

@Bullseyetips: “18 goals in the champ from CM, would hope he could add at least 5-7 goals from midfield which could be vital. We need anything at this point.”

@MattyCollins18: “Get him in ASAP.”

Wolves should have signed Brownhill weeks ago

There were also plenty of Wolves fans making the point that the club should have landed Brownhill weeks ago.

He’s a player Wolves have admired for a long time, and the club will have known about his contract situation.

Brownhill brings goals, industry and leadership, and given his lack of a transfer fee, is a no-brainer of a signing.

We will see if Wolves can sign him. The wage demands could be big given his status as a free agent. But Wolves simply do not have time to lose.
