Wolves fans baffled by one transfer deadline day decision, ‘this is madness’

The 2025 summer transfer window will not be remembered fondly by Wolves fans.

Vitor Pereira had been hoping for a positive window, and to end it with a squad that would hopefully be able to build on last season.

But Pereira has been left short, with this squad now weaker than the one last season.

Game-changing players left, and the recruitment team have brought in players who might take some time to hit the ground running.

There’s also a lack of balance. Wolves did not sign a new midfielder, and potentially could have done with another ball-carrying forward.

In the end, Wolves signed just one player in Tolu Arokodare on transfer deadline day.

And there were three loan exits for young players – one of those being Pedro Lima, who has gone to FC Porto.

And Lima’s exit has left some Wolves fans surprised.

Lima made just six appearances last season.

He barely featured due to the unwavering faith in Nelson Semedo, and the likes of Rodrigo Gomes and Matt Doherty also got some minutes there.

But after a year at the club, and Semedo leaving, some felt Lima would have been in line for more involvement this term.

But Ki-Jana Hoever being kept around perhaps might have pointed to a loan exit.

Regardless, some Wolves fans have questioned the decision, especially with the plan apparently being for Lima to play games for Porto’s B team initially.

@Kentheman10: “So Pedro Lima is another player gone out on loan. I thought he would have got more playing time at Wolves this season. However I do hope his time Porto can develop him more for when he returns. 🐺 #WWFC.”

@temperingspices: “Very strange. Surely better off training with us & playing for our academy than Porto’s B team?”

@TobyMarshall__: “Think this highlights how low the level of our academy is. We’d rather loan him to someone else’s to develop him for us.”

@benjames__13: “Yh this guy never plays for Wolves again. How are we sending our best prospects on loan to better clubs than us? #wwfc”

@Richymanwolf: “Seems like a strange loan. I can’t see him getting minutes there either.”

It’s understandable some fans are disappointed by this decision with Lima.

Many would love to see him have more involvement at Wolves, given his promise. But the signing of Jackson Tchatchoua and Hoever staying would have made things tricky for him.

The Express & Star have reported that Lima had been ‘attracting interest from Wrexham, as well as other Championship and League One clubs’.

But a loan didn’t materialise as Lima had been expecting to be called up to Brazil’s U20 squad for the World Cup that takes place in September and October.

But the E&S say it’s understood Lima hasn’t been called up, and so, a loan move has now been sanctioned.
