Wolves fans at odds over Conor Coady after latest transfer claim about former captain

Several players are still held dear to Wolves fans after leaving Molineux – and Conor Coady is certainly someone who falls into that category.

Conor Coady left Wolves in 2023, having spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Everton.

He left the club after Bruno Lage did away with the back three/five system Wolves had so much success with under Nuno Espirito Santo.

He was actually sold to Leicester City on the watch of Julen Lopetegui, who then left the club just weeks later.

Coady has had a couple of years at Leicester, gaining one promotion and then suffering relegation in the season just gone.

Leicester are now looking to offload a number of players following their relegation and Coady is someone who could be making way.

It was recently claimed that Coady was in talks with Rangers about a possible move to Ibrox.

Now, there’s been another claim, which has prompted a reaction from Wolves fans on social media.

This evening, Sky Sports News have reported via their Transfer Centre that Rangers have now approached Leicester about signing Coady.

As part of that claim, Sky have also said (17/06, 5:10pm): “Coady is one of a number of players Leicester are willing to sell this summer after relegation to the Championship. There has been interest from elsewhere, including Coady’s former club Wolves.”

It is not exactly clear whether Sky are talking about the interest in Coady Wolves had earlier this year, or fresh interest.

But Wolves fans have been reacting to the new claims.

And there are plenty who still reckon Coady would be a great addition.

@jay_wwfc07 said: “I don’t care, for homegrown rules, and leadership, and as a like 5th/6th option… BRINGGGG.”

@thomdd23 added: “Club legend, it will never sit right with me the way he left. He might not be in the starting eleven, but would be huge to have around the club. We’ve missed him and there’s no denying it.

@DaveGreen1987 said: “Bring. Our. Captain. Home.”

But some Wolves fans are actually not on board with a Conor Coady return, with several believing he is simply not needed.

@bushburyboy15 said: “Sorry no that would be a backward step was great for us while playing for us. But not at the level we need now.”

@Mark4947 added: “Can’t go backwards need forward thinking.”

@BellegardeSZN said: “Just move on now. Great when we needed him, but that was a few years ago, he’s not on that level anymore.”

Wolves have no pressing need to move for Coady

Wolves were keen to sign Coady in January, which was a real surprise at the time.

It was then later claimed that Coady was desperate to return to Wolves, but Leicester ultimately didn’t want to lose one of their dressing room leaders.

He looks set to move on this summer, with Rangers seemingly now looking to bring him to Ibrox.

And that would be a good move for Coady.

There is, of course, a romantic element to the idea of Wolves re-signing Coady. He was a brilliant servant and captain at Molineux and is still adored by many at the club.

But arguably there is little need for him, even if he wasn’t going to play much. And the dressing room is in a very good spot.

Plus, Vitor Pereira wants a left-sided defender at the moment, so Wolves surely won’t be moving for their former skipper.
