Wolves fans are getting excited after hearing what Nelson Semedo just said about his future

Nelson Semedo stands to leave Wolves this summer when his contract expires.

The wing-back is one of a few players who are set to become free agents in the summer, and there is a chance the club could once again lose a captain.

A couple of months ago, Semedo was said to be likely to leave Wolves.

Given his status as one of the top earners, the suggestion was that Nelson Semedo may not extend, with Wolves looking to trim their wage budget.

But the pictures seems to have slightly changed recently.

Vitor Pereira publicly declared that he hoped Semedo would stay at Wolves. The manager, like those before him, has used Semedo at almost every turn since he arrived.

And now there’s been a fresh update on the situation – from the player himself.

After Saturday’s win over Leicester City, Semedo was asked about his future at the club, and where things are at right now with his contract situation.

He said: “Yes, we’re still in conversations and I think it’s possible.

When asked if it’s important to keep the core group together, Semedo said: “Definitely, definitely. I think that’s the main point actually, to keep most of the players and we can pass on the way we play.

“They can pass on the way that Vitor thinks as a coach and make the way easier for them (new players) to adapt as quickly as possible so they can like deliver the football and they can only think about football and make good performances.”

Wolves fans love Semedo update

On social media, some fans reacted very positively to the update from Semedo.

Some did not really expect him to suggest there is still a chance he could depart. Of course, he could still end up moving on.

But it now feels there is much more of a chance that he sticks around.

@k3ym4n6 added: “Be massive to sign him for at least 1 more year. Bed in Gomes and Lima.”

@robc306 said: “This would be great. Has turned out to be a very good captain.”

@WWFC_ST21 said simply: “PLEASE.”

Semedo signing new contract would be major boost for Wolves

Semedo had his best season for Wolves in 2023/24, and ended up winning Players’ Player of the Season.

He struggled a bit in the first half of the 2024/25 season. But then, who didn’t under Gary O’Neil?

Since Vitor Pereira came in Semedo has been back on song, and he has also taken to the role of captain well.

Hopefully an agreement can be reached for his extension, because he’s clearly someone the manager wants to stay, and he’s still got at least one more season in him at Premier League level.
